Upcoming Appearances
August 16, 2010 ~ Blog Talk Radio Interview. Along with one or two other authors, I'll be talking with Dellani Oakes about my book and about being an author. I'll also be reading an excerpt from my book. Visit Dellani's Tea Time at 4:00 Central to listen to this family friendly event!
August 19, 2010 ~ Book Signing Event. I'll be selling, signing and reading from my book. Barnes & Noble Book Store in Manchester, NH (across from the mall) at 4:00!
August 25, 2010 ~ Local Authors Night. The Toadstool in Keene, NH, at 7:00! There will be two fantasy authors (one is me) and two mystery writers. We'll be selling, signing and talking about our books. I can't wait!
October 23, 2010 ~ New Hampshire AuthorFest 2010. I am excited to announce our new venue: Borders Bookstore in Concord, New Hampshire. Local authors will be attending this important event to help promote literacy. There will be an author meet and greet, author readings, an award presentation and several chances to win signed books and original artwork to help raise money for literacy!
Past Appearances
April 17, 2010 ~ NH Writers' Project Writers' Day.
I am looking forward to learning about both writing and the publishing
business, networking with other area writers, and having the
opportunity to speak to agents and publishers. I think it's going to
be a lot of fun!
Note ~ Lots of fun and adventure on a snowy, rainy April day...Check out my blog for details!
November 14, 2009 ~ Barrington Craft Fair. I'll be at
the fair from 9-3 selling the last 6 copies of The Prophecies, version
1.0 and hyping 2.0, the new and improved book. If I ever get to be
rich and famous, those 1.0 versions might be worth double what you paid
for it! Come by and see the new book cover - it's awesome! Location:
Barrington Middle School, Barrington, NH.
Note ~ Deemed a success. I sold 4 of my last six books and will probably just keep those copies. I enjoyed seeing all the people and of course, spent much of my earnings. But I like supporting local talent, and it's a great way to find unique gifts. I get tired of seeing the same old stuff. Go Creative, Buy Local!
October 17, 2009 ~ It's that time of the year again -
the SWA Fall Writer's Conference. I will be attending once again,
hoping to broaden my horizons. This year the conference is being held
in Dover - not so far for me to drive, which I like. Maybe I'll see
you there!
Note ~ Okay, I didn't see you there, but I had fun all the same. I learned more about the publishing business and about how to think outside the box when it comes to writing. I tend to write in the 'classic' style - I don't think I'll ever be a ground breaker, but it was a good way to stimulate ideas.
August 15, 2009 ~ NH AuthorFest is coming! Mark your calendar for August 15th
from 11:30 to 3:00. The event will be held at the Lilac Mall in
Rochester, NH, where we will be "inspiring the next generation of
readers!" There will be a Meet and Greet, Book Signings, Q & A
panel discussion, authors reading excerpts from their works, and a
“Leaders Inspiring Readers” Award. I'll see you there! I might even be giving a short introductory speech. Egad.
Note ~ Well, it was a hot, sunny Saturday in NH - a rarity this summer - so we didn't see the turnout we would have liked. But enough people came to make it all worthwhile. Highlights of the event included watching Hunter Allain, who is hearing impaired, sign to the book, Last Night at the Zoo. He was really fun to watch! I also enjoyed giving the Leaders Inspiring Readers speech (yes, I did do one) and award to Beryl Donovan, Director at the Gafney Public Library. While she was giving her acceptance speech, an older woman - she had to be in her seventies or eighties - came up to me to tell me that she had only just recently learned to read. Can you imagine that?! How inspiring for us all, and just the right motivation to keep us working to make AuthorFest better and better every year!
May 17, 2009 ~ I'll be attending the Seacoast Writer's
Association spring writer's conference on this date. I am psyched! If
you live in the NH seacoast area, come join us and spread the word!
For more information, visit the SWA website.
Note ~ The format was different for this conference. Only one workshop, which was disappointing. However, SWA made up for it, reading some excellent (award winning) works by local writers. We watched a spoof on the Da Vinci Code, called the Norman Rockwell Code, starring Langford Fife, son of Barney Fife. Yes, Barney. Very fun and amusing. I also 'met' Michael Sullivan, local author, and bought one of his fun Escapade Johnson books. I really just asked for his autograph and then accidentally dumped my bag out at his feet. So I can't really say we actually met formally.
April 9, 10, 23, 24, 2009 ~ I'm back again! I am working
as the "Artist in Residence" for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes at
my local school. I am doing the same writing workshop as before and look forward to
meeting more kids, and hopefully encouraging future writers (as well as
those who 'hate' to write!).
Note ~ I'm just so impressed with the kids that I worked with. They put in the effort, produced some wonderfully creative character descriptions, and came up with lots of amazing similes. I would love to keep doing this work with kids. I'm really beginning to see how one person can make a difference, even if it's just a small one. As an official artist in residence, I did get paid for this last batch of workshops, which wasn't my intention going into this. However, I figure I'll have to come up with others way of giving back to the community. I already have some ideas a' bakin'!
February 13, 16, 20, 2009 ~ I'll be returning to the
school to do three more fourth grade classes. Can't wait to see what
similes and metaphors I'll get this time.
Note ~ I had a great time doing these workshops. I loved helping the kids, saw a lot of talent, and really enjoyed answering questions about being an author and writer. The kids amazed me with their curiosity and great questions. I was also surprised when the fourth grade and PTA presented a gift basket of local items (see pic). I'm absolutely thrilled. Not that getting something in return is what this is about for me, but everyone's show of appreciation meant a lot. Thanks, guys! I hope to come back again some time!
February 12, 2009 ~ Once again I'll be heading to the
schools! I'll be joining the fourth grade classes at the local
elementary school to do a reading from my book and a workshop on
character development. I'm really looking forward to it!
Note ~ The kids were great! Very talented with lots of good questions. It was a lovely way to get back into doing workshops again. Thanks, guys! They even wanted me to sign their Anaedor bookmarks and one young lady likened it to getting an autograph from the Jonas brothers. I was very flattered. : )
December 6, 2008 ~ My last craft fair appearance of the
season will be at the Strafford Craft Show at the Strafford School from
9:00 to 3:00. If you're looking for some last minute gift ideas, this
is the place to go! Come say howdy!
Note ~ Yet another success for Anaedor! People were so supportive and friendly - they seemed to really like their books! I sold and signed 15 copies of The Chronicles of Anaedor: The Prophecies on Saturday.
I had a great time and hope to do more shows in 2009!
November 22, 2008
~ I'm doing another craft fair! I have had to order more books (I only
have 5 left - how crazy is that?) and hope they arrive in time. I
guess I can always sell some of my photographs if I run out of books!
The fair is at the Pittsfield high school gymnasium from 9:00 to 2:00.
My mom will be selling her unique and beautiful Native American crafts,
from hand-made pine needle baskets to dream catchers to birch bark
baskets, ideal for holiday gifts!
Note ~ Well, this craft show didn't turn out to be nearly as big, or as successful as the Barrington one, but I still sold 6 books and spoke to a couple local teachers about doing workshops at the school. I was pleased with how I did and met some nice people, too!
November 8, 2008 ~ I thought I'd try something a
little different and attend a craft fair to sell my book. I'll have
free bookmarkers to give out and copies of my book to sell and sign.
Plus, I'll get to see all the neat crafts for holiday gift ideas!
Christmas shopping made easy. The craft fair is going to be held at
the Barrington Middle School from 9:00 to 3:00. Come check it out!
Note
~ Wow! What an awesome fair. The people were great, the coordinators
friendly and helpful and I sold 24 books - way beyond my expectations.
My mom also did great, receiving lots of kudos on her unique work,
especially the pine needle baskets. It was nice having bookmarks to hand out, though getting people to take something free wasn't always easy. Go figure.
All in all, a rip-roaring success!
October 18, 2008 ~ I'll be attending my first Seacoast
Writer's Assocation Conference on this date. I'm excited about being
able to participate in two writing workshops, but as a student this
time rather than as a teacher. I can't wait! I will also be signing
and selling copies of my book from 12:00 to 1:00. The conference will
take place at Chester College in New Hampshire. Click here for more information on the conference. I hope to see you there!
Note ~ I had the greatest time at this conference! I feel like I really learned some good stuff about characters and dialogue. I especially liked Tom Dunn (playwright extraordinaire) because he was funny and because he encouraged me to submit my work to a contest. Gotta love people who give you kudos. Katherine Towler helped me to see what I need to do to better develop my characters. I bought her first book, Snow Island, and look forward to reading it and learning from it, as well. The people who ran and attended the conference were the nicest, funnest group I've met in a long time. I'm so glad I went.
August 16, 2008 ~ The Writer's Festival 2 at the Lilac
Mall in Rochester, NH, running from 11:00 to 3:00 is coming up! I went
to the first one, but I didn't have a book to sell. It was sad. Now
that I'm published, I'm hoping to sell at least two! Come help me meet
my lofty goal (I'll even sign your newly purchased book for free) and
meet some other local authors, too! Also, be sure to visit Waldenbooks
right there in the mall and start your Christmas shopping early. Your
friends and family will thank you for it!
Note ~ Not only did I sell a couple books, I got to meet several great authors, one of whom was New Hampshire author, Rebecca Rule. I enjoy her work immensely and was thrilled to meet her! I also bought her book, Live Free or Eat Pie. I think I shall live my life that way from now on.
June 9 and 10, 2008 ~ I am delighted to be heading to the
Barrington Middle School to do a book reading and to discuss what it's
like to be an author, the publishing business, and whatever else the
students can think of to ask me (though hopefully nothing about
neurosurgery). Being a stay-at-home mom, I'll have my 3-year-old with
me. This should be interesting!
Note ~ This was a lot of fun. The last day was the best because we were able to gather up a smaller group of readers and writers who were interested in the process and got a good discussion going. I had to bring my kids with me because we have my babysitter's (who also happens to be my mom) car. Ours is dying and we've ordered a new one. Anyway, the kids were awesome! I nearly forgot they were there. The students were awesome, too, and I look forward to doing more of these reading/writing sessions, with plans percolating in my head to organize a writer's group for teens.
June 2, 2008 ~ I will be appearing with two other young
adult authors, Susan Colebank and Phil McGrail, at the Barrington
Public Library to discuss being an author, writing, our books and
whatever else comes up. Authors will also be selling signed copies of
their book for those who are interested. Hope to see you there!
Note ~ I sold some books, met some fellow authors and had a good time! I really enjoy these events and hope to do more in the future.
December 8, 2007 ~ I will be doing a book signing (and selling copies of my book) at the Beginning of Time from 11:00 to 1:00 in Northwood, NH.
Note ~ I did sell a book at the shop, but not when I was there. I bought more stuff and got to know Tammy, the owner, better!
November 27, 2007 ~ I will be running a writing workshop for my last third grade class at the local elementary school.
Note ~ My most inquisitive group yet! These 3rd graders had a lot of great questions for me - they made my job easy. Although when they saw my photo at the back of the book, they giggled.
November 26, 2007 ~ I will be running a writing workshop for two third grade classes at the local elementary school.
Note ~ My favorite part was when one of the kids wrote that his partner's "eyes are like a gleaming pool of mud." My second favorite part was when a couple of the kids asked when I would be coming back. They were either glad I'd come, or wanted to be forewarned so they could call in sick that day.
November 24, 2007 ~ Kristina Schram, local author, will be appearing at the Beginning of Time on Route 4 to sell signed copies of her new book, The Chronicles of Anaedor: The Prophecies.
The book signing is part of the second annual Northwood Shop Hop taking
place November 23rd, 24th and 25th from 10:00 to 6:00. Kristina will
be at the store from 10:00 to 2:00 on Saturday, the 24th.
Note ~ I sold more books than I was expecting to, so I deemed this event a big success!
November 20, 2007 ~ I had the pleasure of reading an excerpt from my book and running a little workshop for two different third grade classes today. I had a lot of fun and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves, too. I hope to continue doing this kind of work with the schools. My goal is to make reading and writing fun!
November 14, 2007 ~ I presented a Writer's Workshop entitled, The Art of Transition: How to Make Your Writing Flow! at the Barrington Public Library.
The focus of the workshop... Do you dream of writing your own book? Do you want to become better at
expressing yourself? Or do you simply want to hear more about the
writing process? Well, then, the Flow Workshop is the one for you!
This free workshop is designed to help writers make words, sentences
and paragraphs flow together, thereby avoiding jarring, confusing or
frustrating their readers. Having struggled with this issue herself,
Kristina Schram, author of The Chronicles of Anaedor: The Prophecies,
will be offering her own take on how to overcome this issue.
Note ~ I came, I offered, and I think that people walked away having learned something (myself included)!
August 18, 2007 ~ The Writer's Festival at the Rochester Lilac Mall. Organized by Denise Carter, manager at Waldenbooks, and by Jeremy Robinson of Breakneckbooks. This festival was a lot of fun to attend, although anything that gets me out of the house qualifies for fun. Since my book wasn't published yet, I only displayed my book cover and handed out a synopsis of my book. There were several other local authors attending the event, as well, signing their books and talking to fans, friends and family. I hope to do this again next year, but with an actual book to read and/or sell this time.
